Records Room - Dolphins
The waters of Galen Weyr and Cape Hold are home to a respectable pod of dolphins. They respond either to the bells at the Dolphineers' Hall and Cape Port, or to a dragon's bugle. Dolphins become juveniles when they stop nursing at about 4 Turns, but they may stay with the maternity pod (comprised of mothers, calves, and other females) up to 6 Turns depending on the mothering style of the dam. When they become independant, they join other pre-adults in a fluid juvenile pod--fluid because young dolphins are just as fickle and changable as young humans. They become adults when they reach sexual maturity and join either the maternity pod or a bachelor pod of 2-4 males. Females mature at about 8-10 Turns and males mature at about 12-15 Turns. Like humans, dolphins mate for pleasure and may not always concieve. There is no "mating season." They live for about 50-60 Turns. The Dolphins: Maternity Pod | Juvenile Pod | Bachelor Pods | Other |
